Sustainability at Hotel Medes II

In 2022 we installed photovoltaic panels on the roof of the hotel to generate renewable energy.

The installation produces approximately 34 MWh of solar energy per year, which allows us to cover between 16% and 17% of the hotel's annual electricity consumption.

Since its installation, the system has already prevented more than 29 tons of CO₂ emissions.

We are constantly working to improve the hotel's energy efficiency through:

• high-efficiency air conditioning system with aerothermal technology
• LED lighting in the facilities
• progressive renewal of equipment to reduce energy consumption

We also made improvements to the building to reduce energy demand, such as replacing enclosures and glass with more efficient systems and incorporating shading elements in the rooms.

We implement different measures to reduce the environmental impact of our activity:

• waste separation and recycling
• reducing plastics in picnics and packaging
• use of less polluting cleaning products

Starting in the 2026 season, we will also incorporate amenities with EU Ecolabel environmental certification, using refillable dispensers that will significantly reduce the use of single-use plastics.

The hotel has charging points for electric vehicles to facilitate more sustainable mobility during our guests' stay.

In addition, from reception we can provide information on public transport options and other sustainable alternatives for getting around the area.

We promote the consumption of local products and collaborate with local producers.

We offer local products such as rice from Pals, anchovies from L'Escala or apple juice, thus contributing to supporting the local economy.

Furthermore, we also inform our clients about guided tours, activities and tastings of local products to discover the territory.

Hotel Medes II is part of the network of companies adhered to the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism of the Montgrí Natural Park, the Medes Islands and the Baix Ter.

This initiative promotes a responsible tourism model and collaboration between companies in the territory committed to sustainability.
